We had a whole presentation to describe our progress. Here are the Notes we used during the presentation:
Hi everyone, I’m Emma, one third of Team ACL. Our project consists of a three-pronged approach to ACL tear prevention for female athletes, consisting of a stretching protocol, a nutritional plan, and a model of a low-profile knee brace. This ACL prevention plan is specifically tailored towards female athletes like my partners and me. This summer we extensively researched knee anatomy, and my partners and I worked together to create a project website detailing the work we had completed.
Through our Fellows journey, we continue to complete the goals we set at a steady pace. Our original ideas have expanded as we continue working on our project. All of our research and notes are relayed onto our website; For instance, we have completed the nutrition page after adding an infographic of beneficial foods for recovery, which you can see in our slide.
Emma, Regan, and I have also compiled a list of exercises for the stretching program which we plan to be professionally reviewed.
As a team, our plans change and evolve, so far for the better. For instance, we have decided to incorporate an athlete story page on our website, where we will highlight stories from sidelined athletes. Our first story is in the works!
The last aspect of our fellows is the creation of a low profile brace. We recently paper matched a model of a knee to help us find general measurements for our brace. Regan has done extensive research and analyzed multiple braces, which I could provide from my past injuries. We will include certain aspects of different braces we believe will optimize the performance of our own low profile brace.
As far as the future of our project we are excited to begin accumulating all of the work we have done thus far into a unique product. Soon Emma, Kylie, and I will begin 3D printing the hinges for our brace as well as utilize our paper mâché model to begin molding our brace with different plastics and materials to find the best fit. We are also excited to compile an instructional stretching video which we will film on Severn’s new turf. If you have any questions feel free to look at our website or reach out to us with any questions.
